(1914–1999) one of America’s most famous ↑baseball players. His popular name was ‘Joltin’ Joe’. He played for the New York ↑Yankees (1936–51) and helped them to win nine ↑World Series. He was named Most Valuable Player in the ↑American League three times and was chosen for the Baseball ↑Hall of Fame in 1955. DiMaggio married the actor Marilyn Monroe in 1954 but the marriage lasted only nine months.
